Help us with our first baby!

Personal message

Good day!

My name is Sven Immelmann (25) and I live in Johannesburg West.

I recently found out I'm going to be a father and I'm really excited! My wife and I have always wanted to start a family of our own, and the opportunity has finally come

My wife and I recently found out that we are having our first baby!
She's around 7 weeks now, and we both couldn't be more excited!

Unfortunately, while we were looking for a gynecologist in and around our area in Johannesburg West, we found out that our medical aid does not support maternity and birthing. When we originally opened the account with medical aid, they told us there would be maternity benefits of up to R35,000, along with financial support for scans, a gynecologist and a pediatrician. They failed to mention that was only under one of their plans. So when we decided to sign up, we went for one of the cheaper options which unfortunately does not support any maternity or birthing.

Fast forward months later, when we want to start planning financially, medical aid drops the biggest bomb on us, refusing to pay for any of the maternity or birth.

This news was unexpected and heartbreaking. We do not want to go to a government hospital, as we've both heard about the horrors that have happened there, especially during childbirth.

We are both desperately trying to find a Plan B. I've spoken to various hospitals who do not have payment plans. We can start paying up right now for the next 7 - 8 months before my wife gives birth, but this is not financially possible at the moment.

My wife and I estimate that it will come to roughly R60,000. This also includes any possible medical complications that arise during birth.

We have made contact with various medical financial institutes which loan the money out to cover any medical bills, but they are not confident in giving us the full amount. We are both prepared to pay back a monthly premium to cover the costs, but the financial companies cannot promise us full-coverage.

This is my desperate attempt at asking the world for any financial help. We are both so excited to have a child together. We never expected the medical aid to drop us like this. All the excitement has become fear. We are both stressing about how to afford private healthcare and we are not sure how we are going to cover all the costs.

I'm not one to beg - but I beg you! Any donation will be highly appreciated by me and my family.

We hope to raise funds by December 2019 latest ass we need to put down the payment a month in advance. We estimate the birth will be the end of Jan 2020 and we need to be able to pay the hospital before my wife gives birth.

Funds raised will be used to pay for the gynecologist, anesthetist (if needed), hospital fees and to cover any medical complications that could arise during the birth.

Your donation will mean that we won't be a new family in massive amounts of medical debt.

We will be forever grateful for all the help and support received.

*Funds raised will go directly to the hospital*
