Iron Man 70.3

Iron Man 70.3

Personal message

My name is Ross Hindle, 26, however this campaign is set-up to help good friend of mine, Prince Chikezie, in achieving his dream of becoming an academic neurosurgeon.

I shall be completing in the Iron Man 70.3 in order to raise funds and assist Prince in completing his medical degree, for which the cost of tuition has previously proved unaffordable.

Due to Prince not being a S.A citizen, obtaining a scholarship has been next to impossible, however through various assistance from the University and friends, Prince has managed to fund his tuition, however various other essential costs remain.

Please see more about Prince's prestigious academic career and challanges below.

"My name is Prince Chikezie. I am 24 years of age, and I have lived in South Africa since relocating from Nigeria at the age of 10 years.

I have an academic history that attests excellence and reflects the time and effort that I have invested in my education. In 2016, I attained my Bachelor of Science (Cum Laude) in Human Biology (Applied Anatomy & Physiology) at Stellenbosch University. In 2017, I was awarded my Bachelor of Health Sciences (Honours) in Experimental Physiology at the University of the Witwatersrand. Once again, I was awarded the degree Cum Laude. This academic excellence saw me shortlisted to attend the prestigious 2018 Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, Germany; a meeting that provides an opportunity for open exchange of scientific expertise, inspiring cross-cultural and inter-generational collaboration among scientists from all over the world. Attendance at the Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting is based on a rigorous and highly competitive application process, with only graduates of the highest academic calibre are nominated.

Striving a step closer towards my educational ambitions, the Faculty of Health Sciences, at the University of the Witwatersrand, recently selected me to study Medicine through their Graduate Entry Medical Programme (GEMP), the only University that offers this contemporary programme in South Africa. My career goal is to enter academic medicine in South Africa, and to continue the legacy of the country’s academic medicine system, which has produced many world-leading clinician researchers. Currently, I see myself specializing in neurosurgery or neurology, with the aim of contributing scientifically and clinically to the advancement of our understanding and management of neurological diseases relevant to Africa, and to the training of new specialists in the field. With support, I will have every opportunity to achieve my goals of being one of the new generations of South African clinicianresearchers. Thank you for your kindness and understanding."

These funds shall be directed in helping fund Prince's medical aid cover and text books, to essentials needed to further continuing his studies at WITS.
