My name is Jarryd Gibson (21) and I live in Pietermaritzburg, Kwa-Zulu Natal. I am a South African Sprint Kayak Athlete currently working towards the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
I am raising funds because I have been selected to race for RSA in 3 different international events. The first is the World Sprint Kayak Championships in Romania and Hungary and another, an International event at the African Champs in Morocco. I have come up with enough money to pay for Romania and Morocco, but unfortunately, I fall short with the Hungarian tour. This tour is the most important as it is the Olympic qualifier! I'm raising funds because it will give me the opportunity to try and qualify, if I don't go my chance will go out the window.
I am dedicated to my goal and have put my heart and soul into this for the last few years and I am not ready to give up! I have sacrificed more than most on my journey and my goal is to represent my country at the Olympics.
Funds raised will go to Emirates for flights, the accommodation in Hungary, the embassy for my visa, to Nelo for the rental of the kayak, transport, food and the cost of having my coach there.
Breakdown of costs:
Flights - R23000
Visa - R3700
Accommodation - R13400
Kayak rental - R2500
And then Transport and food will vary
Racing is in August but fortunately, I have been given a little bit of time to come up with the money! so my time frame for raising funds would preferably be by the 1st September 2019.
