CLAWS Clanwilliam Pet Sterilisation Project

Personal message

CLAWS Clanwilliam Animal Welfare operates under the guidance of EnviroVet CVC / Dr Annelise Roos. We have been fundraising in our personal capacity for pet sterilizations and primary pet health care for the small town of Clanwilliam and surrounds for the past 12 years.

The average cost per sterilisation is R600 per animal. Between April and May 2021, we managed to fund a 5-day sterilization project neutering and spaying 284 pets in the Clanwilliam community. This project cost R140 000. Every month we aim to raise enough funds to sponsor the sterilization of at least 4 dogs and 4 feral cats, to feed the neediest animals, and to provide primary health care, education and support. All of our funding is private and a significant source for us is our tourism industry which has been severely impacted, resulting in significantly reduced donations and funding. Our current waiting list for sterilizations since May 2020 exceeds 500 animals. Without a regular 6 month program of sterilization and community support, the pet population increases fourfold and the health of the animals severely deteriorates. Every donation counts towards making this critical intervention available to the impoverished pets of this small and under resourced town. I would sincerely appreciate any help to be able to continue this work.

I am Jeanine Mitchell, I work with and under the guidance of EnviroVet CVC. I have been fundraising for pet sterilizations and primary pet health care in Clanwilliam for 12 years.

We managed to fund one pet sterilization project this year in May where we sterilised 121 pets. Every month we try to sponsor at least 4 pets and feral cats for sterilisation, feeding needy animals and providing primary health care, education and support where needed. This year tourism has been affected so donations and funding has been very limited. We have a waiting list of 300 animals that need to be sterilized since May, every 6 months that we cannot afford to sterilize them the pet population increases four times.
