Jeremy Golden Globe Race - solo around the world

Jeremy Golden Globe Race - solo around the world

Personal message

Get involved with Simon's Town resident Jeremy’s quest to be the first South African to race solo, non-stop, around the world in the Golden Globe Race.

Entrants must be totally self-sufficient for the time at sea and may not receive any external assistance, nor may they stop to take on fuel, food, or water. No weather routing or any other assistance is permitted by a shore support team.

No modern navigation or communication equipment is permitted and the sailors will have to navigate using sextants and the heavenly bodies.

The boats they can use are true to the history of the event and must be traditional, heavy displacement, long keel, production sailboats between 32’ and 36’ overall and they must have been designed before 1988.

The race is the longest duration and arguably the toughest competition on earth and the competitors will aim to complete the 30,000-mile course in around 240 days.

With your help, Jeremy can equip his boat to a standard necessary to be safe and win the event rather than to just be a participant. The cost of participating is well over R2.0 million and has to date been funded entirely by Jeremy, in part by selling his house. It is not only about Jeremy being the first South African to participate (with the aim to win).

After the race, Jeremy would like to mentor a young South African to take part in the 2026 event, acknowledging that the country has a tremendous talent base that has not always had access to competing in these types of events.

Interesting fact:

More people have summited Mount Everest and more people have been to space than have sailed alone, non-stop, around the world via the three ‘Great Capes’. HELP JEREMY to achieve his dream, make South Africa proud, and in doing so, create more opportunities for others to follow in his footsteps.

We can assure you Jeremy will appreciate every contribution to help him achieve his goal.
