Help us put our electricity back on

Personal message

Hello, my name is Jessica, my hubby is Brent and we have a very active and bubbly 4-year-old, named Gabriel.

On the 1st of December 2018, our electricity was switched off. It has been 1 year, and still, we have no electricity. Here's our story –

Putting our pride in our pockets is not easy. We need help. We are asking for help.

We once had a flourishing business which sadly closed its doors in 2017. Slowly but surely our situation got worse. Without a business bringing in enough money to pay our bills, we saw our expenses growing and growing, to such a point that our electricity was switched off by Eskom.

Our water will inevitably be switched off too. It is just a matter of time.

Our son is 4 years old. At this stage, it seems he knows no better, but living in a 1 bedroom cottage with no electricity with a 4-year-old is not ideal. In all honesty, we are in a nightmare.

Our dog Harvey passed away in July. We rushed him to the AACL who in return just sent him home. If we had the money we would have taken Harvey to the VET, he would have been treated and survived. We failed our poor Harvey. The guilt is overwhelming.

We are failing our little boy too. Our son should by now be in his own bedroom, but it's impossible at present. Our son shares our bedroom with us. We live in a 1 bedroom cottage, which was only meant to be temporary. In 2017 we started building a small house on the smallholding where we reside. When our business folded, everything came to a halt. We were never able to finish home we started building. Today it's just a standing shell. We are still confined to the 1 bedroom cottage.

The strain of being in such financial crises is impacting our marriage and our son. Our son is growing up fast, he will soon realise that the way we live is not normality. We need help!

We have tried many different ways to make some extra money and pay off our massive electricity bill, to start with. They have all failed. We are at the end of the road. We do not know where to turn anymore.

All documents, unpaid Eskom invoices etc. are available to view at your request.

Any donation is SO MUCH appreciated!

-  Reaching our target would mean our electricity can be switched on again. -  We will be able to use our fridge again instead of a cooler box.  -  We would be able to have hot showers instead of ice-cold ones or boiling water on a 2-plate gas stove and bucket bathing.  -  It would me we can watch TV again. -  We can have light again, instead of using our mobile phone torches. -  We will be able to charge our mobile phones (which is very important to have for emergencies, especially with a 4-year-old at home).

All the funds will be used to pay our electricity bill which is R50 000.  A R5000 reconnection fee also has to be paid to Eskom.  This brings our total campaign to R55 000.

All funds raised will be paid directly into the relevant institution.

Regards,

Brent, Jessica and Gabriel da Luz
