Joshua Adlard's Medical Expenses Appeal

Joshua Adlard's Medical Expenses Appeal

Personal message

My name is Debbie and on behalf of the Adlard family, I am appealing for your help in raising funds to cover Medical Expenses for Joshua Adlard. Joshua is 16 years old and lives in EdenvaleJohannesburg, South Africa with his parents, brothers and sisters.

On Sunday, 30th September 2019, Joshua was on his way home after visiting a friend. He was following his friend David, each on their motorbikes. (Josh had his bike for 2 months only, 3 months after his birthday). David had reached the stop street and noticed that Josh was not behind him so he turned around and went back up the street, and found Joshua lying on the road, unconscious. We are unsure what caused the accident as he was riding on a straight road.

Joshua's parents then rushed to the scene. Two ladies that work for Netcare ER, live just across the way and came to assist and helped to stabilize Joshua until the ambulance arrived. The paramedics realized that it was a serious head injury and that he was battling to breathe.

The ambulance rushed him to Netcare Milpark Hospital as this hospital deals with this serious type of head injury. After dealing with administration issues between the medical insurance and the hospital, the insurance paid a R100 000 deposit Joshua was admitted and went to ICU.

The trauma surgeon and neurosurgeon advised that he had a badly fractured skull and there was blood on the left side of his brain and had bruised his left lung. They did not think it was necessary at the time for an operation. They waited a couple more days - still no improvement.

On day 5 he started to show negative signs and was rushed into surgery. They removed the blood from the brain - the operation was successful and he responded positively. The following day he showed more positive signs.

Our concern now, is that the medical funds were almost depleted. This was very strange as a quote was received for 2 weeks which came to R277,000. Day 6 and the funds were depleted!

Joshua's Dad, Wynne, enquired and discovered that a mistake had been made - instead of R400 000 available, there was only half the amount. The quote that was given was only for the hospital and excluded doctors, surgeons, surgery, scans, blood tests and physio etc. The hospital quotation was also incorrect.

Joshua has since been released from Milpark, but as there is slight brain damage, so he needs to be admitted into rehabilitation for a month.

We are extremely happy with Joshua's healing to date and believe that he will make a full recovery.

Funds raised will be used as follows:

  • Netcare 911 - R3 712
  • Radiology - R28 240
  • Milpark Hospital - R257 000
  • Dr Opolot, Pulmonologist - R48 868
  • Emergency Rooms - R3 000
  • Dr Pritorious, Trauma Surgeon - R38 000
  • Dr Zario, Neurosurgeon - R29 396
  • Blood Test Ampath - R16 635
  • Physiotherapy, Moira Wilson - R12 775
  • Dr Blanckenberg, Anaesthetist - R11 944
  • Dr Lamparelli - R5 820
  • Rehabilitation - R80 000

The Medical insurance covers R 250 000 so it leaves a shortfall of R285 000

We are positive that monies raised/donated will help Wynne & Catherine to clear some of the outstanding medical bills. Sending much love and light to everyone that has taken the time to read through this appeal. The extended Adlard Family.

*Funds raised will be paid directly to the relevant medical institutions*

Joshua Adlard Medical Cause

Joshua Adlard Medical Cause Logo

Joshua Adlard (16) had been in a motorbike accident on the 30th of September 2019. He was rushed to Netcare Milpark Hospital, where he was attended to by a trauma and neurosurgeon. He has undergone an operation and has since been discharged. The medical insurance covered less than half of the costs, and his parents need help to produce the remainder of the costs to pay the hospital and to pay for his rehabilitation.
