Hi. My name is Cindy (26) and I live in Vereeniging. I am six months pregnant with a beautiful baby boy. His name is Grayson and is due on 25 December 2019 (My Christmas present).
I live in South Africa and we don't have a law that helps mothers get their salary while on maternity leave. Currently, my employer pays half of my medical contribution but I will also be responsible for the full contribution and I will not be receiving any portion of my salary. In South Africa, we can claim a percentage of our salary from UIF while on maternity leave, but it can take up to a year to start paying out, which makes it very difficult(I will need to sell my car, which isn't worth much to get through one month of maternity leave). I would love to be at home with my newborn baby for three months after his birth to breastfeed and bond (I will be shedding tears when he goes to creche), but will not be able to be on maternity leave financially.
Any donation, big or small, will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to everybody who reads about my story. I think we need to do something about this law to help empower woman and embrace motherhood, instead of making it a very stressful time when it should be the most celebrated time. I am not somebody to ask for help and feel embarrassed and a bit like a failure, but please know that this is my last resort, else I would be the last person asking.
The funds will be used to pay my medical aid contributions, pay my 10-year-old daughter, Chloe-Lee's school fees and buy her stationary for next year, buy groceries for three months and things needed for Grayson, such as diapers, etc, that he may need.
Breakdown of costs:
Medical Aid contribution- R7927 x 3 m />My daughters school fees-R850 x 3 m />Groceries-R 000 x 3 m />Credit card-R751.65 x 3 m />Diapers for Grayson-R60 per pack x 12 packs for 3 m />School Stationary pack for Chloe- R650
Even if the target amount is not met, every bit will help in paying for some of these bills that need to be paid.
I need help by December 25, Grayson's due date.
The funds will allow me to be on maternity leave for three months with my newborn and be able to pay all my obligations and not have to return to work immediately as I can't afford to be without an income for three months(who can?!)
The funds will be going to Moto Health care for my medical contributions, to Laerskool Suikerbos for my daughter's school fees and stationery pack for next year (grade 5). It will go to buying groceries and things need for Grayson, such as diapers, etc.
