On an annual basis, my church embarks on a missions trip to Katima Mulilo in the Caprivi region of Namibia. I have been fortunate to be able to go with for the past 3 years. The aim of this trip is to -
1. Evangelize among the poverty-stricken community of Katima Mulilo and win souls for Christ
2. Embark on poverty alleviation projects to enable communities to self-sustain once we have left - this is done by (among other things) planting vegetable gardens around and teaching members of the community how to maintain them.
I have found that we have a lot of adamant helpers from South Africa who are willing to come with and land a hand but unfortunately, they cannot due to a lack of funds as it costs about R5000 to send one missionary to Katima for a 10 day period.
Further, when we are there we identify many needs among community members which we cannot meet due to a lack of funds, these needs include - the need for sanitary pads among girls and women, the need for hygiene products i.e. soap, toothpaste, body lotion. the need for non-perishable food items, medical needs of the communities we visit.
We spend time with the people in the close by villages which include - Wayawaya 1 and 2, Mafutha, Makolongo and the township of Ngweze.
The money received through donations will be used for the needs above.
