Personal message

This fund-raising campaign aims to help non-profit organisations (NPOs) with data scholarships that will ensure connectivity so they can continue their essential work. Access to data has been a necessary need evoked by the COVID-19 pandemic and the requisite lockdown demands for safety.  Data enables us to work remotely.  It ensures connectivity - access to information, work colleagues, clients, the communities that NPOs serve and our loved ones.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, we have seen a large number of free learning webinars emerge.  Many non-profit staff are unable to join these webinars because of the high cost of data per webinar. Inyathelo is a learning organisation and it concerns us that learning and development are impeded by financial constraints.  We would like to change this situation with data vouchers.

This digital fundraising campaign has the sole purpose of raising funds to cover the cost of data. Data vouchers will be directed to eligible NPOs that have insufficient funding to buy data for the purpose of accessing learning resources.

We aim to raise a minimum of R50,000 for data scholarships. For South African donations above R500 Inyathelo can issue an 18A certificate for tax deduction upon request. If you would like to receive an 18A certificate, please email your name and address to [email protected] with the reference Donation.

Inyathelo was established as a non-profit Trust in October 2002. Our vision is a vibrant democracy in South Africa with a robust and sustainable civil society and higher education sector, supported by a strong local philanthropic movement, rooted in the African cultural heritage of sharing.

Our mission is to help build a strong, stable civil society in South Africa by contributing to the development of sustainable organisations and institutions. We do this through the development of effective grantseeking and grantmaking practices, and through capacity development in the higher education and non-profit sectors in South Africa, and on the African continent. We also work to increase corporate and individual social giving through promoting dialogue, sharing information, and providing support services to facilitate sustainable philanthropic ventures that have lasting impact.

Inyathelo has pioneered the practice of Advancement in the South African institutional and non-profit sectors. Our application of “Advancement” is based on an integrated and inclusive approach through which organisations and institutions engage with their external environment to attract private investment and build partnerships with key stakeholders and supporters.
