Kedibone at the Market Theatre

Personal message

My name is Gabriel Masenya and I am a young theatre director. I am raising funds for the cost of staging my production Kedibone at the Market Theatre.

I have a degree in Bcom Statistics and BA Drama. I am from Pretoria and I work as a data management intern at the University of Pretoria. I wrote a theatre production called Kedibone in 2017 and at the 2018 Kopanong festival I won the best production, competing with 40 productions. I was also nominated for the most original writing. I now have a chance to stage my production at the Market Theatre and I need funding to do so.

Funds will go towards paying actors, transport, props and also for the marketing of the show.

Kedibone is very relevant and it touches on patriarchy, sexuality, violence and also issues that affect young people. I have a cast of 8 unemployed trained actors and I would like to use this to create an income for them and also for exposure.

The target must be reached by the 16 August 2019.

Breakdown of costs:
R3000 transport for 3 days
R1000 x 8 actors fee for every actor (R8000)
R1000 for custom
R1000 for stagehands and lighting design
R1000 for Marketing
R1000 for Food

Impact of donations: The actors will be able to support themselves and their families and also this will mean no actor will be exploited or perform for free.

*Funds raised will go directly to the Market Theatre who will administer funds for the production*
