My name is Kevin Barnard and I have taken ownership of Kelvin Corner Cafe, located in Woodstock, Cape Town, as of 1 March 2020.
As you can imagine, the current situation for business, big and small, is worrying. But that doesn't frighten us as there is room for creativity and opportunities in times of chaos!
Like so many other businesses in South Africa and around the world, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has forced Kelvin Corner Cafe to close its doors until the lockdown is over.
The decision to close the cafe was made with the health and safety of our entire community and staff in mind but has, unfortunately, lead to a period of uncertainty for the 3 full-time employees that rely on Kelvin Corner Cafe for their income to support themselves and their families.
Myself, as the owner, I am doing all that I can to receive funding from the various initiatives that have been launched to support SMME's in South Africa. With the business being so new, finding financing is not as simple as one may think.
While we wait for outcomes of our funding applications, we are reaching out to you, the Kelvin Corner community, to play your part in helping to keep our staff earning money during these uncertain times.
100% of all donations received will be split equally between Learnmore, Lawrence, and Steve. The R45 000 will cover 2 and a half months' worth of salaries and additional payments to the staff.
If you have spent time at the cafe and interacted with any one of our staff, you will know what a shining light they are in this world and they will greatly appreciate every single rand that you are able to donate.
If you are able to assist us in any way, be it money, food or clothes (if you'd like to donate other items i.e not cash, please message us on our various social media platforms) we will all greatly appreciate it and your donation will go a long way towards ensuring that our staff is able to survive during these uncertain times and that the coffee and food is just as good as you remember it being when the world goes back to normal!
All funds will be collected and disbursed evenly every week. This entire process will be shared on social media to ensure transparency between the cafe, the staff, and the donors.
