Get Kyle to Los Angeles

Personal message

For the past couple of years my mother has found it increasingly difficult to acquire a job. In my hometown of Bredasdorp we do not have a lot of job opportunities thus my father has to work out of town. Most of the job opportunities that he receives are located in the surrounding areas outside the confines of our small town. Therefore most of his income goes to transportation fees while the remainder of his money covers our living expenses and my education.

My parents always support me and make sacrifices to help me achieve my goals and dreams. They made me realize that no matter your circumstances, with hard work you can achieve your dreams no matter how big they are.

I am planning on paying my tuition fees with the help of financial aid, fundraising and other sources such as approaching businesses, organizations and the local government and municipality to help me raise the remaining funds. This tuition discount will help me avoid costly student loans that can take a lot of years to repay.

My estimated budget while attending the program will be $33 000 for tuition and about $18 000 for housing and living expenses per annum.

I come from a community where kids dream big but they are afraid to actually achieve these dreams due to the lack of opportunities that plague the citizens of our area. In Bredasdorp, there is not a lot of opportunities for performing arts, cultural activities and sports after school. If you tell your parents that you want to pursue a career in one of these fields, they tend to be rather dubious about the whole idea.

It has been a tradition for children to leave Bredasdorp after finishing school, as Bredasdorp has no further education to offer. The nearest source of further education and training is in Cape Town which is over 200 kilometers away. Some children are not fortunate enough to move to Cape Town for further education or opportunities in the performing arts industry. The unfortunate conclusion to this situation is that many of them are being forced into any available job in the area, leaving them unhappy with their occupation and their talents withering away due to them eventually abandoning their dreams.

I want to prove to my fellow countrymen that you can achieve your dreams no matter how big they are. I can gratefully say that I have been blessed with supportive parents that are not ambivalent towards my decision of becoming an actor. I want to give back to my community and I want to give to them the opportunities that I have been given.

I am committed to being successful despite my circumstances, and I want to help young individuals find that motivation and ambition in themselves.

My name is Kyle Conray Morkel, Ii’m 18 years old and I am currently in grade 12.  I’m from a small town in the Western Cape called Bredasdorp.

I have been accepted to study acting at the New York Film Academy campus in Los Angeles for one year. Unfortunately I am in need of financial assistance because my family will not be able to fully contribute to my education due to the fact that my mother is a housewife and my father is a builder as well as a pastor.
