Why do we need to fundraise?

To ensure the survival and legacy of Chacma baboons of the Western Cape, as we have no financial support from COCT and TNMP.

Buddy is a dispersing male from the Tokai Troop, who has dispersed several times over the busy M3. Authorities like COCT, Cape Nature and UCT, felt that it was only fair to give Buddy a chance to integrate with one of the many troops on the Cape Peninsula.

Integration into a troop is complex and never easy. Buddy must fight the alpha
male to join the troop. The alpha male will protect his high-ranking breeding
females. Fights usually last until one gives up. It’s very unusual to fight to
the death.

But, in case Buddy's integration is not successful, we need to have a backup plan. Bob Venter of Riverside Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in Tzaneen, is going to facilitate the baboons' survival. Presently, we have 6 baboons ear-tagged as 'problematic' and 10 males about to disperse.

Enclosures will need to be built where the Baboons will be rehabilitated by Bob and Mias Venter. Once rehabilitation is complete, the Baboons will be released back into the wild. The purchase of large farms (2800 hectares) is also a solution for the future of the Western Cape baboons.

The total cost of these enclosures will amount to approximately R350 000, and this needs to be raised soon. Assistance with this fundraising would be very much appreciated, as we need to save our baboons before any more are euthanized.

This will ensure the survival of our baboons, away from residential areas and people, and allow them to live out their lives in peace and harmony, just as they have done for hundreds of years.
