Makulu gets a new lease on life!!

Personal message

Makulu is an elderly Jack Russel who was abandoned in the township, wrapped in a towel. Concerned community members alerted JBARS who took her to their clinic. Once there, it was clear she had several cancerous tumors - the worst one on her chest - and some broken teeth. She was taken to the vet who determined that - while the tumor was cancerous - it wasn't aggressive. A JBARS volunteer took her home to give her the best of everything for however long she still had...

Well...Makulu flourished! She ate like a champ, told all the other dogs in the house who's who and what's what! She demanded to go along on beach walks and let her guardian know just how much she loved car rides by insisting on standing on her lap so she could put her nose out the window. Makulu embraced her 2nd chance at a full life.

Now, however the tumor on her chest has grown and her quality of life is in question. Her guardian consulted with the vet about whether it was time to euthanise her. The vet recommended that a blood scan be done to determine whether she could tolerate surgery to remove the tumor. The blood scan showed that all was within acceptable range and surgery could go forward. Though, at her age surgery is always a risk, the potential benefits were deemed to outweigh the risks.

So, here's where you - JBARS supporters and animal lovers - come in. The vet will give JBARS a discount, but we still need R1 500 to cover the costs of the surgery.

Help us give Makulu the time of her life! She deserves it.....

Jbay Animal Rescue Sanctuary is a non-profit organisation situated in Jeffreys Bay, South Africa.  We are a group a ladies with one thing in common, we are avid animal lovers who wish to alleviate the suffering that is endured in our local townships by so many domestic animals.

After a few years of negotations, our local municipality has granted us the use of two buildings in the township, which we can use as a Community Animal Clinic.  We are currently busy with renovations and hope to formally open our doors soon.

In the meantime we are busy with:

1.  Monthly spayathons where we try to spay 20-30 animals.

2.  We hold a weekly outreach where we dip, deworm, feed and medicate dogs and cats.

3.  We vaccinate stray animals on a regular basis.

4.  We provide kennels where animals need it the most.

5.  We look for homes for unwated dogs, puppies and cats.

It is only with the generousity of our supportes that we can care and assist all animals in need in the local township.

At the moment we are in desperate need of funds to reach our main goal - to spay 20-30 animals per month.
