Mariska Coutts needs our help!

Personal message

Hi, I'm Christy and I'm from Auckland.

Mariska had the entire contents of her business looted and burnt during Durban's violent protests. She doesn't have insurance. Covid lockdowns were tough enough to endure. Mariska clung to her diminishing sales by the skin of her teeth, but there is no coming back from this if she has to go it alone.

Mariska is a widow and single mom to a teenage son. (And we all understand the food budget that requires). She is always the first to help others with fundraisers. She gets stuck in to help wherever she sees a need.    She has spent countless hours putting out fires, cleaning and repairing other people's damaged storage lockers during this time when she could have chosen to go home and cry.    Her sense of humor through this tragic situation amazes me.  Watching her continue to give when everything has been taken from her is remarkable to witness.    Earlier this year, she was instrumental in helping me fundraise for a lady in our community who required urgent surgery to save her life. Mariska arrived at my home with carloads of goods for me to sell. She bent over backward to assist a total stranger. If anyone deserves some good karma, it's this tough cookie. She has endured way too much already.   I've known Mariska for many years, we both attended Mowat Park High School and lived in Yellowood Park. She has always remained the same creative, hilariously funny, loud-mouthed animal that everyone loved back then.    We were never close friends, and I regret that because she's exactly my cup of tea. So down-to-earth and unpretentious. Just a real, honest, damn good human being.      Please help me to help Mariska. I want her to feel the love and support and be encouraged that the sun will rise tomorrow.    Every cent counts! If you can't donate, please share the heck out of this.    Love, light, and thanks,   Kerry Katz Durban, KZN, South Africa
