Personal message

  • Subscribers' edition: Please note that the hardcover, signed and numbered, subscribers' edition of this book is sold out. Thanks for your support!

If there’s one thing our kids and grandkids (and South Africa!) need, it’s a ghoulishly lekker adventure set on the Garden Route coast.

Martin Hatchuel’s ‘It’s a pity I didn’t bring any swords’ is that story.

This campaign’s purpose is to help get it published - and so enrich the reading lives of children of all ages, everywhere.

  • It's a Pity I didn't Bring Any Swords

This is a story about a water-crazy kid, his loyal dogs, and his friend Blueberry, the ghost of a sailor boy, who set out to find Blueberry's lost grandfather (last seen haunting an abandoned ship on Noetzie Beach 150 years ago).

Weaving imagination around actual historic events - the wrecks of the Paquita, the Seier, the Fredheim, and the Phoenix, which all went down in or near the Knysna Heads - it’s also haunted by the most famous ghost ship of all: the Flying Dutchman...

It’s a Pity I didn’t Bring Any Swords’ runs to about 136 pages.
