Masks for informal settlement in South Africa

On 1 April, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize recommended the use of masks as “one of the best ways of preventing the spread of infection”

Informal settlements are housing to million of households, these settlements are found in a variety of areas and are home to a large percentage of the country's impoverished population. According to Department data, there are more that 27000 informal settlement nationalwide housing approximatevely 1.2 million people.

The Covid-19 pandemic is a rude awakening for South Africa’s ability to provide water and sanitation for the poor and marginalised living in these informal areas, however, thus some of these needs have addressed by Government, mechanism to combat Covid 19 and prevention measures such provision of masks and sanitizers have not been addressed and need maximum attention from all of us, if we have to curve and avoid massive spread of Covid 19 in many of these informal settlement.

So let us help to get masks to those areas, local and home made masks

The fund raised will be utilised:

-Fabrication / acquisation of masks to be free disrtibuted to many informal settlements

-Support local smes factories/ sewing businesses to make hand made masks to be free distributed to these informal settlement
