Personal message

As many of you already know, our close friend Michelle suffered a serious setback after a sudden and unexpected stroke left her partially paralysed on 10th April of this year. Upon her admission to Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital two months ago, doctors informed her that the paralysis on her left side was likely to be permanent. It was an utterly devastating blow to her loving husband Rudi, her four beautiful young children, and also to our wider community. For the past 8 years, Michelle has been incredibly active in the lives of our young children as both a "surrogate mother" and a passionate educator. She is the founding Principal of Moo Land preschool in Diep Rivier, Cape Town.

For 11 gruelling weeks, Michelle has worked hard every day to go father, do better and get stronger. She has been completely focused on, and dedicated to, an intensive program of rehabilitation. In the face of mounting medical costs, adapting to new limitations and the sheer stress of early recovery, Michelle has overcome almost insurmountable odds with courage, grace and dignity. With the help of her excellent team of physios, Michelle has now regained some movement and begun to move about with the aid of a cane.

Recognising a need for high quality, affordable care for toddlers in her local area, Michelle created and developed an intimate learning space in her own home in 2011. What began with just 4 learners, grew exponentially year on year, to become the 20-strong preschool it is today.

Moo Land Mums have come together to create a fundraising opportunity that will enable us to keep Moo Land running while Michelle heals. Though her progress has been significant in such a short amount of time we are, as yet, unsure of how long she will need to fully recover.

In the meantime, we have hired a new teacher to keep the day-to-day running seamlessly at Moo Land, and we gratefully welcome Nicola Waterfield to the team. Rudi, Michelle's husband, has selflessly committed to paying Nicola's salary for the year and we would, therefore like to, as far as possible, alleviate this financial burden by contributing funds towards this end. Nicola has a PGCE from UCT and has strong mathematics and history background. She was most recently a valued Learning & Development Manager at Royal Dutch Shell (Pty) Ltd in Cape Town. We would like to use Michelle's extensive and loyal network, to raise at least R64,000 to cover some of Moo Land's immediate costs.

Michelle has struggled to move around at home, unaided by Rudi. We would therefore, also like to raise funds to adapt their space to help Michelle regain some independence and freedom of movement. Any money we raise beyond this, would go towards continuing her physical therapy beyond the precious few sessions her medical aid will cover and also possibly, towards any sundry costs her young family may experience as a result of her current disability. We are therefore, hoping to raise R100,000 towards medical expenses.

We would like to have the bulk of the necessary funding raised by December 2019.

Our first priority is raising R64,000 to keep Moo Land preschool fully operational during Michelle's convalescence.

Anything raised over and above that amount will go directly towards helping to cover some of Michelle's medical costs.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued and ongoing support we have had from Michelle's close friends and from past and present Moo Land Mums. It means a lot to us all to be able to offer Michelle aid at a time of crisis. She has given so much to so many of us, it is a privilege to be able to give something back to her.

We need continued support from our friends and colleagues to help us to share this fundraising campaign far and wide to make the best use of all of our networks - personal and professional. Please become a #championformichelle and share this link on social media. Please also take a moment to "Like" and "Share" our dedicated Facebook page:

We thank you all so much in advance, for helping us towards our goal sum!

All donations will go into Rose Dallas's Capitec bank account. This bank account has been set aside for the sole purpose of fundraising on behalf of Michelle and Rudi Tito. Mrs Dallas is our Fundraising Director.

Michelle Tito suffered a stroke that left her partially paralysed on 7th April 2019. She is currently being treated at Life Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Pinelands and funds raised with this BackaBuddy campaign will go towards keeping Moo Land Preschool afloat and paying off her medical bills.
