My Kidney Buddies Campaign

Personal message

My family took it apon themselves to support and help me financially since I started my dialysis career 6 years ago. Most families would jump in and support if and how they can.

Yes, it's important for me to get my body stronger before and after the transplant, but I can't cover everything anymore. Some days are good, others are possible and some just suck. It's very unpredictable, so you are never certain of how your blood pressure will affect your body after treatment. There are times when I look better than I feel - like a million bucks; on top of the world. No one likes to hear someone moan about the same thing daily.

I have started a jewellery line as well as an organic body product range to generate an income, but it's not nearly enough to carry me through the month. Not yet anyway.

Disability grants pay out R1500 per month. My rent and my medical aid still need to be covered before anything else happens.

I have reached the end of my lease again as it was a short term rental. I am looking for another place to move to at the end of the month. I was hoping to at least settle in before my transplant. I am still in hospital with a possibility of rejection which I do not believe and still need to find suitable accommodation for myself without having to risk sharing for the first while due to isolation.

It’s been by the grace of God that every month just happened to work out.

My payments were covered each month, but then stopped. I need to find alternative solutions to cover these payments. I never thought I would ever be in a situation where I needed to ask for help like this.

And then it happened!!! I got an unexpected call from my doctor to say there is an available kidney and I was the next potential match!!

I had my transplant on the 22nd of May. I am still in hospital and working on what and how I need to plan for survival. Even though this is the biggest blessing in the entire world, it is still a bit daunting not knowing where and what or how things will transpire, but I am taking on this new challenge with open arms and living in absolute gratitude.

I still have to cover my Medical aid as the anti rejection and anti viral meds, steroids and every day medications are a must. If I don't cover the payments, I can't get medication and it means the new kidney will be rejected. My late payments must be something of the past.

I still need to cover all expenses as explained.

All I am focussing on right now is my brand new lease on life; my second chance; my miracle.

My biggest dream of all is to become a motivational speaker. I have the voice. People need to hear my story as it is not just about kidney transplantation; but also a story of hope and encouragement. We don't need to struggle through an illness. With the right tools it is possible to live a fairly balanced life.

I am trying to find a sponsorship for a branded car that will be willing to help me over the next year in order for me to get to the hospital for blood tests and to see the doctor the next day again. It’s a lot of travelling, but public transport is not an option. I need to be in isolation and out of public areas for at least 1 to 3 months.

I have received a second chance in life. I have the greatest gift of all. I need to use what I have and what I have been through in order to help those who can't do it all alone.

For now, I need to get myself mentally and physically stronger for the next stretch of the journey. It is never over. More can always be done. If i can touch lives while at it, I fulfil my dreams. It never just ends with ourselves; that's only where it starts. We need more people to reach out to others in need while ill, lonely or depressed due to circumstances beyond their control. All we need is encouragement and a helping hand for support. I would like to be the difference in others lives.
