Nabihl's Basketball Journey

Personal message

Hello Everybody!

My name is Nabihl Liebenberg. I'm a 21-year-old basketball player from Paarl, South Africa. I live in Chicago which is considered as one of the most highly rated communities in crime. However being from a poor community it didn't stop me from going after my dreams as a basketball player and as a young school kid. I went to Dalweide Primary and finished my high school at New Orleans Secondary  where I played my whole high school career. I was the only player in the history of New Orleans Secondary School's basketball  to be named as the captain of the under 19 basketball team as a grade 8 boy. I have led the New Orleans team to winning four out of five derbies and being the best high school basketball player from 2013-2017. While playing in 2017 as a high school player in the senior Cape Winelands League I have won Most Valuable Player (MVP) at Bethel Church basketball tournament, later that year I went on playing with Spartans basketball club winning the Cape Winelands Basketball League as the youngest starter in the league.

The following year I joined the Worcester Knights where we have played and won the Cape Town's Mens 2 Basketball League, where I have yet again received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

Throughout my basketball career I have represented the Cape Winelands Basketball District where I have won several best player awards and I have also represented  the Western Cape Team several times

This year (2021) after going for tryouts I received two Basketball National League contracts with Northern Cape Zebras and Eastern Cape Windbreakers and chose to play for Northern Cape Zebras in the BNL. In South Africa the BNL considered as the only Semi-Professional League. I was the only one from Paarl to play in the BNL this year and the youngest player from Paarl to ever make it to the BNL. Being able to make it to the BNL as a basketball player from Paarl at the age of 20 is a huge achievement. I turned 21 just after the BNL season. We have a lot of basketball players in Paarl, but I am one of only a few players that can say they made it as far as the BNL. That's why I am truly blessed.

Just after the BNL, I got contracted by the M3BA Basketball Association, in Victoria Texas, USA, to come and play for them. Making it to go play in the USA has always been my childhood dream throughout my whole basketball career. After reaching out for several years to different countries and clubs, my prayers has finally been answered. To make this dream become a reality I need each and everyone's support to help me raise the funds that I will be needing to achieve this dream. The funding will be used to pay for my Travel expenses,Living Expenses and housing.  Any and all contributions will be highly appreciated.

Thank you all.

We are struggling to raise funds as me as a single parent are unemployed and he had a temporary job for a while.Helping us will help not only Nabihl but a whole community by showing them that ones circumstances does not need to stand in our way of pursuing your dream and where you come does not have to label you.

Please help us raise funds to get Nabihl to USA in July.Funds will help with his flight as well as accomodation.
