The Ndlambe Lockdown Support Group NPC

Enterprise Number: 2020/520962/08

The Ndlambe Lockdown Support Group NPC 2020/520962//08 was formed in response to the COVID19 Pandemic and its devastating effect on the vulnerable communities in Port Alfred a small coastal resort town in the Eastern Cape. Situated midway between Port Elizabeth and East London the town’s economy is reliant on tourism and its two academic institutions.
Covid19 and lockdown has had a devastating impact on the community due to the closure of restaurants, hotels, accommodation establishments and business and industry that operate in support of this sector of the economy.
It is also home to Stenden University a branch campus of Stenden University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands and 43 Air School a dedicated flying training organisation, catering for the private, general commercial, airline and military sectors. The closure of both institutions and departure of their students has had a further impact on the economy resulting in the closure of many businesses and others running at way below capacity resulting in numerous job losses.
The Ndlambe Lockdown Support Group is non-political, non-religious and non-racial and with assistance from many community based organizations and individuals raised funds and provided
• Over 7000 families with emergency food relief parcels
• Over 4000 people with masks made by our women’s support team
• Fed 1000,s of domestic animals
The next phase of our assistance program is roll out of our Vegetable Drum Program. Individual households will receive a 200 litre self-sustaining vegetable garden drum AND through regular training and support IT is our aim to create food security as well as ensure that our community has access to improved nutrition.
We understand that many of you have also reached a point were expendable income is scarce. Whilst we understand this we are appealing to anyone who is able to make a donation no matter how small.
We are supported by Rotary Port Alfred and have received assistance from all the churches, Round Table,   Spar, both Rosehill Super Spar and Nemato Spar, Nemato Change a Life, The Lower Albany Farmers and The Royal St Andrews Hotel Port Alfred. Having said that the vast majority of our donations have been received from ordinary South Africans who have reached out to help those in need.

The Ndlambe Lockdown Support Group was founded in response to the COVID19 pandemic and the humanitarian crisis that resulted from this. To date, the organization has raised over one million brands and fed over 6000 households.

The next phase of our project is to facilitate self-sustainability in the form of food security through agricultural projects within our vulnerable community, further to provide skills training and the transfer of skills and education in entrepreneurship
