Personal message

Newton College Port Elizabeth was born of a dream to give a second chance to people to get a matric. Our doors opened in January 2018 with 3 students. However, it did not take us long to realise that the financial barrier to education was still a huge stumbling block for many who walked through our doors.

Many students had to be turned away because they just could not afford the fees.
As an institution, this left us feeling distraught but determined to find a way of how we can step into the gap to provide the assistance we would so much like to offer. We implemented a CSR program at the beginning of 2019 where Newton College funded one student for every fifteen students enrolled.

We grew our enrollments to over 30 students in 2019 and sponsored 2 students. These individuals all came from disadvantaged backgrounds. But still, this was not enough. Hence, the birth of Newton College Foundation (NPC: Registration Number - 2020/148536/08), the first step in realising our goal to give a second chance to those that need their matriculation.

In 2020 we reached our first milestone and secured funding for 20 students to rewrite their National Senior Certificate Matriculation examinations in November 2020. In 2021 we retained sponsorship for a further 20 NSC students. We are inundated with requests from people who need to complete their school leaving certificate (matric) but cannot afford the tuition fees.

We have set a goal of sponsoring 40 students in 2022, 20 NSC and 20 SC students. Through collaborations, donations and sponsorships we envisage spreading our reach as far as possible and impacting as many lives as possible.

Our approach to this huge social problem will be addressed within the initiatives currently running and those planned by Newton College Foundation. We have separated the initiatives into those that require:

  1. Financial support/sponsorship
  2. Resource support/sponsorship
  3.  Dedicated time and subject-specific skills

We are a non-profit company in the field of education. Newton College Foundation was established to address a genuine challenge faced by young people who drop out of school before completing their final matriculation examinations or who fail their final matriculation examinations.

Firstly, there are very few education facilities that cater for this group of students, and secondly, many do not have the resources available to fund a return to school.

The goal of Newton College Foundation:
To find financial donors that Newton College Foundation can support through fee assistance programs.
To find individuals or organisations that can directly sponsor students' fees to complete their matriculation examinations.

Since Newton College Port Elizabeth began operating, we have managed to sponsor 43 students out of a total of 180 students that have attended our school.

This is a drop in the ocean of young people that need assistance. We cannot build an economically viable community in South Africa if the problem of education is not addressed urgently.

We are raising funds for education. Thousands of young people remain unemployed because they did not complete their matric.

We want to make a difference in their lives and get them back to school and get their matric.
