Personal message

Nikita is my fluffy blue-eyed girl with an incredibly soft heart. She is a red and white Siberian Husky and enjoys her daily walks on the beach.  Through this fundraising site and the generous donors, I was able to raise just enough funds for her knee operation in August.

Sadly, a month post-op, Nikita and I were attacked by two dogs on the beach whilst going for her daily beach outing.  She has and continues to suffer from her wounds and the associated trauma.  She battles to walk and is in constant pain.  Her wound has closed but her fur has not yet grown back and her skin tissue has blackened from the trauma. During this time, she received three doses of antibiotics as she suffered a bacterial infection all the way down her hind leg.  She had to be medicated and received 20 tablets daily (she is down to six tablets).  We had to travel every second day to the vet to flush her wounds and then change her bandage.  At times she had to be sedated and held down by four vet staff members.

I am now liable for the remaining balance of the vet bill since the “responsible” party has stopped paying as they do not have any further funds.  The harsh reality is that neither of their dogs were leashed and vaccinated.  The double blow has affected her and me physically, mentally, and spiritually.  Her more so, as she continues to suffer from her injuries.

Please help us get over the last hurdle of paying off the last vet bill owed to our local vet (amounts to just over R1600).

I hope this incident is a wake-up call to all dog owners and in the future, they will act more responsibly when walking their dogs in public.

She is all I have, so this hurts me deeply.  I am all she has since her brother passed away over a year ago - she is very attached to me.  We suspect her brother was poisoned as it was unexpected and very quick.  She is the friendliest pooch in town and is known by the locals – she did not deserve this!

She also could not defend herself as she was still recovering post-op.  I honestly fought as hard as I could for her and also suffered minor injuries. I was, however, the luckier one that day.

Please help us end off 2023 on a healthy and positive note, so we can continue afresh and renewed in the New Year.

We are determined, and will not allow the stress and trauma from this dog attack, to beat us or follow us into the New Year.  I continue to pray for protection over our lives and give thanks for the life we have been granted.

If Nikita could talk, she would thank each of you personally but just know she sends lots of licks, soft furry cuddles, and a howl of thanks.  Thank you to all her generous donors thus far.  She would not have made it this far, without your love and support.

*If you would like a copy of the vet statement as proof of the associated costs, please do get in touch with me.
