My name is Jadee and I am a wedding planner based in Cape Town. After receiving a special request to create a project around one of the wedding venues I discovered a forgotten school named Nondzame Primary in Pniel, Stellenbosch.
Started in 1982, they were moved from Boschendal’s wine estate Property a few years ago and reallocated to prefab buildings on the site where they currently reside alongside Pniel Primary School.
Most of the children are from the surrounding informal locations including Lanquedoc and Kayamandi. These children get fed one meal a day which is paid for my government however everything else has never been replaced since the day they opened.
I currently just assist the school in trying to purchase or sponsor items they might need. I am also trying to ensure that their African children’s choir gets used at weddings and celebrations in the area, as this will mean an income for the school.
Visiting the school every few months, it has become apparent that they lack very basic amenities.
They are currently in need of the following:
School chairs for Grade 6 and 7
Pens and pencils
Container for storage and library or indoor play area
Fans for summer
The school is also in need of someone to teach basic computer skills. Someone donated computers, but the doesn't have budget to pay someone to teach computer skills.
This will mean that the children will be better cared for and be able to enjoy basic schooling needs.
In summer they will be able to play on the jungle gym and enjoy the freedom and fun of childhood while at school.
