Every Champion Starts Somewhere

Personal message

My name is Rikky Minyuku, I am a 43-year old single mother of 5 children. I live in Johannesburg. My daughter, Nuru has been doing karate since she was 4 years old. This year she ranked number 2 nationally in her kumite age and weight division.

Nuru qualifies to represent South Africa at all international events including the Southern Africa regional championships in Namibia and the WKF Under-12 Cup in Croatia. She will receive Protea colours for representing South Africa. We need funding to pay for travel, her protea colours and additional equipment for kumite. I will also travel with her because she is so young.

The achievements of a young South African talent are inspiring. Nuru works hard to fulfil her karate dream, training daily sometimes up to three hours a day. She is driven and doesn't give up. In 2018, her karate gi's were stolen in a car break-in just before the Commonwealth Karate Championships. She borrowed a gi and went on to win bronze. She hopes one day to be an African champion and then a world champion.

We need to raise the money by 15 June 2019.
Funds raised will be used to cover:
AUSC Championship in Namibia - R25 000
Protea Kit - R2700
Kumite Equipment - R5000
WKF Under-12 Training Camp and Cup in Croatia - R90 000

Nuru will gain experience competing internationally for South Africa. She will also participate in a training camp with the best karatekas in the world. She will prepare the way to start gaining international ranking when she becomes a Cadet (under 14).
