My name is Lesego Mary-Jane Mokone (also know as OCRGirlEmjay) and I live in Pretoria, South Africa. I am a 33-year-old Obstacle course racer (OCR).
I am looking for donations/sponsorship/support so that I can take part in the World Championships in London that are taking place in October 2019.
Donations will be used for the following:
Travel: – ( From South Africa to London, and From London to race venue)
Apparel: – (Racing kit and Shoes)
The average cost for each athlete is approximately £1900, and that doesn't include living expenses. Athletes are responsible for covering expenses. All donations will directly help me fund my participation. By contributing you will help me cover the costs needed to race.
I am a newcomer to the Obstacle Course Racing community. My journey started in February 2016 and I have been driven to take the decision to participate full time ever since. I qualified to represent South Africa at the OCR World Championships in November 2018 at The Warrior Race 8 Soweto.
This taught me so much about myself and my strengths and weaknesses, and how hard I can push myself physically and mentally. I have learned to face challenges and overcome all obstacles (even my fear of heights) not only on the course but also in life. I wish to inspire all girls and women, no matter your religion, age and background you can achieve your dreams and anything you set your mind to.
My journey will not stop here. I am in pursuit of becoming a top obstacle course racing athlete and that involves pushing my limits and working daily in being better than yesterday. Being a newcomer (rookie) and being able to race in World Champs will be a learning experience and an opportunity for me to race against the best in my age group and fly the South African flag high as a representative on the international stage.
