Walking for the children of Lavender Hill

Walking for the children of Lavender Hill

Personal message

John Nicholson and his family have long opened their hearts, and their home, to the youth of Lavender Hill. Thanks to support from people like you, the roof is back up over the Siyafunda Library. That means that now they can turn their attention to other needs in the community.

To put his shoe leather behind his commitment to the youth of Lavender Hill, John has decided to WALK from Cape Town to George, beginning on April 1, 2020. It's a distance of nearly 500 kilometers, and John is estimating he can cover about a kilometer a day.

Won't you make a donation to show your support for John's efforts (and to help him keep going when fatigue sets in)?

Here's what's on the wish list:

Support for more books for the Siyafunda library

Establishing an internet centre to help with digital literacy, introduce the youth to the broader world beyond Lavender Hill and the Western Cape, and aid in job searching for the older youth. (The goal is at least five laptops and five printers.)

Funds toward a minibus or bakkie to use to transport the youth to various events and activities outside Lavender Hill.

John's willing to give up five days of his time, and a lot of steps, to make this all happen. Won't you help?

R.75/U.S. $.05/km is a $25 donation

R1.5/U.S. $.10/km is a $50 donation

R3.75/U.S. $.25/km is a $125 donation

R7.5/U.S. $.50/km is a $250 donation

R15/U.S. $1/km is a $500 donation

But any donation you're able to give will help, and be greatly appreciated by the youth of Lavender Hill!
