Pet Bridge - South Africa

Personal message

My name is Louvaine Williams, I am a 23 year old web designer in Bloemfontein, South Africa with an initiative called Pet Bridge SA with huge potential to help all animal shelters, public and businesses in the pet industry come together in South Africa. This is a 100% non-profit initiative I started in 2018 and would love to be able to give it a kickstart to get it running.

Pet Bridge SA is an initiative I started in 2018. The concept started when my cat went missing for a few days, and I felt so helpless. I wished there was some kind of pet community to reach out to for advice on what to do.

Take a look at our coming soon page on petbridge.co.za which also has links to all the social media.

It is a free online directory website I started for animal shelters in South Africa, as well as businesses who are in the pet industry. Ideally, it would be the go-to for anything pets related. I plan on working closely with animal shelters to discover their needs better, and how I can use my skills to help animal shelters do what they do best while helping animals in the process. I am a web designer, so I have all the knowledge to build most of the features that are needed.

Every pet deserves the chance to find a loving home. Our country is filled with animals that are in need of good homes. Our mission is to give all pets the opportunity to find their “furr-ever” homes by connecting pets and people.

One of the goals is to assist animal shelters by encouraging people to adopt pets, or help support the non-profit shelters financially. More pets adopted, means more lives can be saved by being taken in by animal shelters.

The website, once its functional, will work as follows:

Animal shelters will have a dashboard where they can list all the pets they have up for adoption so anyone can see what pets are available to adopt at a shelter without needing to physically go and look. It can't replace going to see them, but it will give them more exposure on social media so that someone in Johannesburg can see a pet in adoption in Cape Town. The adoption process will still take place with the organisation itself so that they can follow their rehoming procedures. This is just like an advert, basically.

There is a section for general users of the public for pets that are lost and found, and I want to implement the ability to share each listing to Facebook.

I want to offer a way for businesses like pet shops and veterinarians to get involved as well, which is why I included the directory too. It will be free because it will help the pet community become closer together.

I will be finding writers to create helpful articles for the community as well.

By contributing to this initiative, you will be contributing to every single animal shelter and the animals that WILL benefit from it. Since the website is about animal shelter exposure (and businesses - free marketing and SEO), more pets adopted means more lives can be saved by being taken in by registered animal shelters.

This is a project that will only continue to grow and I believe it will have a big impact. It is a project I am extremely passionate about, and I will do whatever it takes to get this project launched.

I will be including a special section for sponsors on the website when it launches. Please see the banking details at the bottom of the post, or in the comments.

By contributing, it will speed up the website's launch because I won't have to find a way to custom code the features I need and reinvent the wheel, and I can focus on what is important.

This is a personal initiative. Currently, I do not have the knowledge to personally build a system that requires user registrations, business listings and other custom features I need. However, I do have access to other resources like our own server where Pet Bridge is currently hosted. I am great at web design using WordPress so I can handle everything except the directory.

Thankfully, there are developers out there who have already built that for me. I have scoped out a few options, and the best one I found is a plugin called Directories Pro plugin which will allow me to do all of the functionality I need for the directory side of things.

The funding will be for the purchasing of this plugin, and any other development costs. The $40, which is approximately R600, is a minimum amount, but these projects come with many costs that I am willing to take on myself if needed. If I raise more than that, I will use it to improve the website features even more.

I have someone who will be working with me for the other custom features I need to get the project off the ground.

Unfortunately, I do not have the funds to get this plugin myself. I pay for own university studies, so If I can't get it, the project will be delayed even more because I will need to find another option.

You can use your name or business name as a reference if you’d like to be included as a donor/sponsor on the website.

This kind of project is very expensive to develop, so no one else would be willing to take on project of this size for free like I am. Everyone I speak to wants me to monetize it because of the money potential. I am doing this for the animals of South Africa who need us. I will be personally maintaining the website, and constantly improving it by adding new features. If it goes well, I will make an app for it.

Please follow me on social media for updates on the project.

If you have read this far, thank you for your consideration. I would really appreciate any assistance.
