Philani's American Dream

Personal message

Philani Simamane is 20years old and hails from Pietermaritzburg in Kwazulu Natal (South Africa)

Philani attended Pelham Senior Primary School and later went on to high school at Maritzburg College.

Philani's leadership potential, work ethic, service above self ethos and the high regard that others hold him in led to him being appointed a school prefect at Maritzburg College for 2019. Philani completed his National Senior Certificate examinations at the end of 2019 with a bachelors pass.

A talented sportsman, Philani played for Maritzburg College's 1st rugby side for 3 years, during which time he gained provincial age-group selection. He also captained the 1st Basketball team in his final year.

I met Philani a couple of years ago as the scholarship recipient of an educational Foundation I supported and a more humble, committed and engaging young man you would be hard-pressed to find!

Philani's dream has been to play rugby overseas and to use this talent the Lord has given him as a way to obtain a university degree. Coming from a financially challenged background Philani is reliant on a scholarship to make this happen.

He has been blessed to have received a scholarship offer from LIFE University in the US but still needs to fund a portion of the costs himself.

These funds raised will go towards assisting Philani with costs relating to his visa application, flights and his freshman year's fees.

Flights, travel costs and visa costs : R25 000
University registration fees: R5000
University fees contribution (freshmen): R60 000
University accommodation contribution: R60 000

This campaign being successful will mean that Philani will be able to successfully enrol at the US university 2021! His flight, visa costs and first year tuition will be funded.

This will be the kickstart to him realising his dream.

“Philani Simamane’s dream has always been to use the sporting talent the Lord blessed him with to further his education.

Philani is a hardworking, committed and humble young man from Pietermaritzburg in Kwazulu Natal whose attributes have most certainly contributed to his sporting successes and his leadership and academic development whilst at school at Maritzburg College.

He has now been given a life-changing opportunity to study overseas as part of a rugby scholarship but needs our help getting over the last hurdle and making this dream a reality.

Philani needs our help in raising a portion of his first year fees himself.
