RAD Sterilisation Drive

Personal message

Please help us end suffering, abuse and neglect. One sterilisation at a time.

2020 has already been well, 2020, and to date, we have spent close to R600 000 on animal emergencies alone.

Our sterilisation funding has been cut and our sponsored Vetsol sterilisation days have come to an end. We cannot let our work come to nought because we have no funds available for sterilisations. We also can't let an animal suffer because we do not have the funds to treat.

We sterilise on average 50 pets per month. That's a monthly sterilisation bill of R30 000 (excluding our emergency/general vet bill of around R40K a month). Sterilisation is one of the most important cornerstones of animal welfare. The more pets we sterilise, the fewer have to suffer abuse, neglect and abandonment in the future.

Because we do not want to have to choose between sterilisation or emergency veterinary care for an animal in need, we have decided to start a dedicated Backabuddy campaign focused solely on sterilisation.

Backabuddy pays out every month and we'd like to continue running this campaign well into 2021, and for as long as we need to, to assist us to keep on doing what we do. Please help us to make it happen. We simply cannot do this without you.

Rescued Animal Drive

Rescued Animal Drive Logo
R.A.D mainly focuses on outreach work in the poorer communities of Botriver and Grabouw.

We assist the community with subsidised veterinary care, especially if the treatment is very expensive but we feel that the pet has a good quality of life.
We sterilise on average 50 pets a month, between our local vet and monthly sterilisation campaigns.

Our focus is responsible pet ownership, where sterilisation is a prerequisite for subsidised treatment and assistance.

Our aim is to maintain a consistent presence in Grabouw and Botriver. After years of working actively in Botriver, we can see the difference in the overall population of domestic animals, and their general wellbeing.

Our aim in Grabouw has been to help each animal on merit, and see our sterilisation drives not as population control, but prevention of cruelty. It will be many years before one would be able to see a population reduction.

We do not have a facility, and have one fieldworker working from a vehicle, going on call outs, driving sterilisations to and from the vet, and doing general rounds in the townships assisting families with taking better care of their pets.
We deal with at least 5 patients daily, from sterilisations and injuries, to disease or illness and surrendered pets.
