Retha Schlebusch (47) lives in Brackenfell in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town. She is diagnosed with MS (multiple sclerosis) and NMO (neuromyelitis optica).
I am Elfriede van Rooy and met Retha through a common friend, who asked me to help Retha with her physical challenges, wheelchair seating and mobility exercises. I am a qualified physiotherapist. Since then, we have become friends.
My heart is very compassionate and I saw Retha's big financial need that makes her really despondent and confined to her home. This motivated me to become involved. My inspiration is my love to help people and to improve her quality of life. She can still have so much going for her and can contribute to society, in whatever small way it may be.
Her need is to cover monthly costs of living - housing, medical aid, her monthly salary for the carer that is helping her. She also needs a new wheel chair. I estimate R25 000 per month.
Medical aid R3500
The rest would be used for unforeseen medical expenses due to the nature of the disease.
She would like to receive a bone marrow transplant in the future but needs the funding for it.
Any contributions will help Retha receive continued care and a stable living environment and will make her more independent (by purchasing a better wheelchair and other aids for making daily living easier)
It will give her a more positive outlook on life.
*Funds raised will go directly to the relevant healthcare providers, medical aid, and housing costs*
