Rise Up. Compassion demands action.

Personal message

We are living in a time of gender based violence, abuse, rape, murder, drug addiction, kidnappings, absent fathers and most of all terrible attacks on our beautiful women. The women in our country are suffering due to the lack of role models our young boys and men have. Our boys/men need to heal their wounds and deal with their trauma. They need to be educated and empowered with practical tools that will help them become men who add value to our society and protect our children.

This campaign wasn't planned for financially by Second Chance Trust, but we feel compelled to act. If we say we have compassion, there needs to be action attached to that. Hence we have committed to working in 30 schools over the next 3 months – 15 in the Western Cape and 15 in the Eastern Cape. To achieve this, we need to raise R105 000 rand. (R3 500 per school)

Each school will receive 2 days of workshops for their young men. These will focus on the trauma that students may have experienced as young boys, what respect looks like, decision making, self-esteem, role models, healthy relationships, healthy mindsets, substance abuse, breaking down negative identities and the danger of being involved in gangsterism.  All schools will be revisited within 3 months to ensure that real change is taking place. Impact will be measured using various anonymous pre and post questionnaires.

Please help us make a difference in our country.

Blurb under Second Chance Trust

Second Chance Trust educates children and youth on the dangers of alcohol and substance abuse and empowers them with the knowledge and skills to make healthy life choices. It also facilitates interventions that promote healing and growth in victims of social issues such as rape, HIV, abuse and gangsterism - which are often directly or indirectly associated with drug and alcohol abuse.

The Trust has a solid reputation for delivering appropriate, innovative and impactful programs. It works extensively with schools and partnering organisations that focus on children, youth and adults whose lives have been affected - directly or indirectly - through substance abuse. Since 2012, over 270 000 children, youth and adults have benefited through Second Chance Trust programs.

The Trust works with young people from all social backgrounds but has a primary interest in low income communities where children and youth are particularly vulnerable to substance abuse due to early and ongoing exposure to extreme poverty, violence and crime. These young people are less like to have access to social support services and more likely to use alcohol and drugs to escape the hardship of their lives.
