ROB HUGHES CYCLING CHALLENGE 2016

ROB HUGHES CYCLING CHALLENGE 2016

Personal message

Hi all,

Some of you knew our dad, he started cycling as a boy and did both track and road cycle racing back in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s around Johannesburg. During his apprenticeship he would cycle from Johannesburg to Pretoria weekly. Unfortunately he passed away on the 03 June this year after a 6 month battle with cancer.

Our dad was an active Rotarian and Community supporter. Those who knew him knew his charity has taken many forms and he supported many causes. One of his favourites was the Cape Argus cycle tour. He was an active steward supporting in various places for over 25 years. He only missed this year as he had his first seizure the night before.

As a family, St Luke’s Hospice supported us all and especially our dad through the whole process. A wonderful organisation helping people through this difficult time.

Tony and I (Terry) have a brotherly cycling challenge coming up on 31 July 2016 together with his friend Brent. We will be doing the Prudential Ride London cycle race in his honour. A 160km epic race through London out to Surrey and back to central London finishing outside Buckingham Palace on the Mall.

We would like to do this race in honour of this man, a husband, grandpa, dad and friend with his charity and above all his love of cycling. Our objective is to raise R20000 for St Lukes Hospice. We will do this in the name of ROB HUGHES CYCLING CHALLENGE 2016.

Your support has been amazing thank you all who have donated so far. After just over one day we have almost reached our intial target of to R20000. We have decided to go for the rather ambitious new target of R40000. Once again thank you so much for your valued support it truly means a tremendous amount to us all.
