Hi everyone, I'm Cindy from Krugersdorp, and I come to you today in honour of my lovely and dearest friend, Roelien Homan, also from Krugersdorp. Roelien is 54 years old and a well know, much-loved property professional. Not only that, her passion and love for animals make her so selfless, and she believes one of her purposes in life is to save all the animals on the planet.

I have known Roelien for approximately seven years, and to describe her in a few words, it would be: Godly, Fearless, Loving, Kind, Selfless, Compassionate, Funny, Ambitious, Adventurous and Courageous. She has a big heart and is always willing to give. Everyone who meets her loves and adores her is why this campaign is so special to so many people in her life.

I need your help today because, in 2021, Roelien got Covid and was sick for approximately 22 days. The following Sunday, she was woken by her husband with coffee in bed and realized she could not hear a single word or thing around her. NOTHING. 

I can't even imagine the feelings she went through, scared, confused, anxious and lonely. She described it as everything being soft, very faint muffled silence.

The following week's numerous tests were done, and the doctors hoped that her hearing loss would be temporary, an after-effect of covid, Roelien's world would be silent forever. 

She was diagnosed with sensory and cognitive hearing loss in both her ears, meaning any words spoken to her were received as a soft, faint, muffled noise which would flatline/disappear every other second, and in between, there would be silence.

Roelien got the hearing aids she needed, and life went normal. Until this year, they stopped working, and the horrible, tormenting silence returned. Unfortunately, her medical aid/insurance on these hearing aids does not cover wear and tear, so we need to help her financially. 

The hearing aids she needs are specifically formulated for her as the % of hearing loss in both ears differs. They are Artificial Intelligent bilateral hearing aids from Oticon. This assists her brain in formulating the sounds spoken to her to be put into words. 

They are also advanced and allow her to hear voice notes, answer and speak on the phone and sit in seminars with big crowds of people to hear the speaker and cancel out all other noises that could interfere.

Roelien's world has been extremely difficult since her old hearing aids no longer work, and it's left her to the point where she is unable to do her job and live, like most of us, a fearless, happy life. She is scared, and she feels lonely and out of place.

Let's all be Roelien's heroes and give her hearing back!
