Smallholder farmer steps up to be a Commercial Farmer

Personal message

I am a smallholder farmer in the North West, I currently farm on 60 hectares (ha) growing Maize, Sunflower and Beans.

I intend to grow from 60 ha to 300 ha, I need a higher level of mechanization, a tractor that is bigger and more fuel efficient together with modern implements that assist in conserving nutrients and moisture in the soil by reduced tillage.

I am raising funds to grow from being a smallholder farmer to farming on a commercial scale. The growth will result in more employing more people, saving on input costs, profitability and sustainability. The growth will be in stages over a period of 3 years. 2021/2 is envisaged to cultivate 105 ha.

It is important that I grow my business so that I can earn a living and provide meaningful job opportunities.

The impact of raising the funds will be modern soil tillage practices that are aimed at reduced tillage to promote soil recovery and nutrient upkeep. Less soil erosion through dust and water. All round sustainable farming operation that is inline with nature.

I intend to use the funds to buy a tractor that is fuel efficient and powerful to pull a strip tilling implement. The funds will go towards a deposit for the tractor and strip tilling implement. The two items are key for the growth of my farming operation. They will also be the springboard into precision agriculture and modern agriculture. Through the purchase of a fuel efficient and large tractor, the hectares under cultivation will increase from 60 ha to ultimately 300 ha and increase employment, profitability and sustainability.
