I am Barry Humphries! Currently, I live in the West Rand of JHB between my mother's house & an amazing friend who really helped me out over the last year to overcome some of the toughest obstacles & life challenges I have been dealt or had to deal with.
After leaving school in 2002 I left for the UK to find my feet, passion, feel for life & just to get away from me being a little nonsense. I did 10 years in the UK where I made the most amazing friends that are more family really, worked and traveled. After 8 years in the UK, I then met with what I thought was my dream lady & inlaws, also knowing them all my life I made that leap to get married. We came home year after that where I worked hard bought a business to try secure myself and the partner with our 1st born and then 11months later surprised twins so challenge welcomed & accepted. The business I managed to turn around even when it really looked like it was never going to survive. This was down to hard work dedication and the person I am which then also worked against me. After spending 6-7days a week working through the nights and still maintaining fatherly duties by cooking feeding bathing three kids every night it eventually took its toll on me, depression burnout and then losing everything I had inc divorce and unemployed for a year.
SO... my funding needed is to finally start my clothing brand I have been wanting to release for years. After being in the print industry and managing to save some of the machines after losing everything, I saved enough to have a slight jump start the process and start small. But this has also been challenging as machines and most are there now I need stock time and total focus. I have come to realise that no one will ever appreciated the hard work or dedication I subject myself to while working for anyone or any company and after having three really bad short term experiences and being messed around so much offered the world and even shaken on the deals to secure a decent future to get myself back on track I am once again yet sitting applying for work and doing anything I can to make sure my kids are sorted every month.
My eldest Chloe is now 4 and a half and then I have the crazy twins and two and a half so it's definitely not cheap to make sure they are kept in a good school, a roof over their heads and fed. So for me, I have everything to lose but so much more to gain and I know how hard I work so the money raised will be able to help me secure stock, supplies and possibly even help towards some school fees or maintenance. I am a highly dedicated father and one the very few people around that honor and trust is key to everyday life and I generally bend over backward for anyone of my family members, friends and anyone I meet.
I would love to be in the full swing and production within the next three months but being realistic terms I would have to say six months. Due to myself being able to run and do Full designs, websites, marketing and pretty much everything most people would have to outsource in the beginning at a high cost to the company I have all the ready to rock n roll and get on with production and no time wasting.
Funds raised will be used to cover:
35% New 2nd hand machines
10% Children commitments if required
I have never really wanted to enrich myself or think of me accepting donations as I have always been a very proud hard working person. The impact on me personally will be massive but an intern I will be able to create a very small LOCAL BRAND to start with and it won't just be clothing line running but a very niche market of tattoo industry related and desired items I know SA could do with. I have always been one to help drive and focus on local business and this brand will be legendary to South African and only ever produced and manufactured in SA. When I ran my own company I truly had a different outlook on how I managed my staff and customer expectations as have always found it to be hard on both ends never really getting the right service from suppliers or support from employers so I know when I can afford to take on staff and enrich and empower them, the impact will be MASSIVE.
