Sarena's Medical Studies

Personal message

My name is Sarena, which is also spelt Serena. I am 18 years old and initially from a small town in Johannesburg called Betrams but I am currently living in Tembisa.

Growing up I have always wanted to be a doctor but due to me and my family’s financial situation I reconsidered getting a job after school. But I still haven’t been able to acquire one and scholarships have not been an option because I don’t qualify. With my mother losing her job in 2020 and my older sister now being the breadwinner, we cannot afford for any kind of college course. I tried applying for bursaries but there has been no luck this year.

My goal was to study Psychology in TUT, UJ or SACAP (South African college of Applied Psychology) next year. My passion and ambition for further learning motivates my hard work to only improve and never give up. Prayer has always been a big part of my life especially in education, but I believe that I am answered only if I put hard work into it and that inspires me to be eager for further learning and bringing about change for myself.

My name is Sarena, which is also spelt Serena. And just like my name, I am calm-minded, with an aspiration of becoming a movie producer in South Africa inspired by the honest and unheard-of stories of our local people. But I need help getting my first degree in AFDA, an arts and theatre school.
