My name is Stephen Engelbrecht (39) and I live in Durban.
In 2014, I was diagnosed with cancer. I will never forget the pain and turmoil of those three years, with most of it, spent in hospital as my body struggled to handle the chemo. Although I’m blessed to be in remission today, my life isn’t cancer-free as I had hoped it would be.
Just over a week ago, my wife Sarie was diagnosed with breast cancer and our journey with the disease started again. This time, she is on the receiving end and I need to step up to the plate and do everything I can for her.
Because of my wife and God, I never gave up. I kept on fighting. Because of her, I am here today. Now, it is my turn to give her the hope she needs to do the same.
As it stands, I am doing everything I can to generate the funds that we need to get Sarie the treatment that she needs. Whilst our medical aid will cover many of the expenses, they will not cover all the reconstruction that is to follow her chemotherapy and double mastectomy and all the unforeseen cost on the journey.
As our previous experience, we only could settle all my medical cost last year that was not foreseen when I went through cancer journey myself. This put a lot of strain on Sarie and myself to ensure we cover all the bills required. As she also has her own business as a Nail Technician Estetico Nails and doing nails from home she will not be able to see all her clients as he always did this will also have an impact.
