Save Baboons & Save Crops by Helping Farmers

Personal message

MSc Nature Conservation student.

I am in need of a minimum of 30 camera traps (the more the better) in order to gain information on baboon activity on farms in the Plett-Knysna region.

The problem:
1.Farmers are being plagued by baboons raiding their crops.
2.Baboons are raiding crops in search of food.
3.After the Knysna fires, Knysna baboon troops have migrated to Plett and are now encroaching and competing with Plett baboon territory.

The aim of my research is to identify which crops are being raided by baboons, identify the raiding patterns of baboons and identify the deterrent methods farmers are using on the baboons.  This data will allow for a humane deterrent method to be identified and implemented and to manage the situation of the increased baboon population and their needs.

The camera traps will also aid in verifying the data being collected by farmers about baboon activity on their farms and to collect any data which the farmers have missed.
