My name is Tina Buchanan and I am raising funds for my dear friend Schalk Willem Blignaut (aka Kallie) He will be turning 31 in December and resides in Queensburgh KZN
Kallie was subjected to a home invasion in January 2019 where both of his legs were broken. Due to financial constraints, he was not on medical aid and thus ended up in a government hospital. The hospital care was FAR from adequate, Kallie was left with an open wound and bleeding for days before being attended to. When the time finally came for an operation to be done, the infection had already set in and the operation had to be delayed. Due to the inadequacy of the surgeons and doctors at the hospital the operation was unsuccessful. During his time in recovery, money became available and an operation at a private hospital was made possible.
By this time of this operation extensive damage to the bones, ligaments and muscles had already occurred and infection had set in. The doctors fought tirelessly to try and save and repair what they could in order for Kallie to lead a normal life again. After many a failed attempts the decision has come to a below the knee, amputation. We are desperately needing funds to assist with the operation as a private doctor has offered to do the amputation provided his hospital stay is covered, this together with rehabilitation, a prosthetic and day to day living costs until he is able to work again.
Raising the required amount will give hope and ease to Kallie especially after all he has encountered as he has not been able to be self-sufficient for over 9 months whilst undergoing numerous operations, trials and therapy.
Therefore the amount needed to be raised is as follows
Hospital stay R45000
Prosthetic leg R55000
Living expenses R10000 pm x 6 months minimum whilst in recovery/rehabilitation R60000
Debt due to not being able to work since Jan R45000
TOTAL = R205000
Our main concern is raising the funds for the operation as well as the prosthetic leg primarily, should we reach our target then rehabilitation and outstanding debts will be covered. We are desperately trying to avoid a government operation as this is one of the main reasons his leg is in the state it is.
