Spread The Word, Not The Virus

Personal message

At Where Rainbows Meet we do our best to support our communities every day. To us, education is key to a better life. For making sure our community can have access to education, food and a sociably interactive life, our foundation organizes events and services every day for our and other communities around the area.  We also collaborate with other foundations because to us it’s important to stay connected in between the communities, support one another and make sure we help the people in the best way possible.
One of our biggest and most important services is the feeding outreach. We provide food for the children and families who often can’t afford the daily meal. To manage the afternoon feeding we stay in close contact with the schools in the areas to assure the attendance and caretaking of the children. During the school holidays, we hand out all the food at our organization which is based in Vrygrond. Here the children can come and collect their food and have at least a warm meal a day.
The second problem we are facing right now is the disinformation and misinformation on the Coronavirus. The people don’t know what is happening with this virus and how dangerous it can be. They neither know how it's spreading, nor that it is spreading across the world, especially in such great numbers. We go around and inform the people about the virus and try and spread awareness on basic hygiene like washing hands properly and with soap.

After the lockdown, we want to create regular programs and talk to the people to assure an awareness on the spreading of germs. To us educating the people on the spreading of diseases and the dangers they carry with them is the first step to prevention. This also means providing people with a piece of soap.
In our communities, a lot of people live from hand to mouth. During this lockdown, we as a non-profit organization, have to make sure the children and families make it through this time and won’t be forced to come out of their homes. For their protection, for the protection of their families and for the protection of the communities as well!
Nevertheless, COVID-19 is not the only disease which is troubling our communities. It just reminds us of diseases like Aids, HIV, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis and many more, which weaken the people’s immune systems and make them more vulnerable to the COVID-19. With the funding, we want to educate our communities on the diseases and do our part to prevent further spreading.

The funding will go towards the education of women, men and children. It will be invested in the growth of knowledge of the people living in our communities and their education on hygiene. We will set the foundation for knowledge on the matter of hygiene with which they can eventually start educating themselves and others on following epidemics, upcoming diseases and eventually stop diseases from spreading and epidemics from happening. This will also mean showing how they can effectively inform themselves and do the research.
