St Bernards Hospice Spring Market

St Bernards Hospice Spring Market

Personal message

Hi, I am Fran Smith and I am from Eastern Cape, East London. I joined St Bernards Hospice in June this year as a fundraiser.

With the drastic onslaught of COVID-19 last year and the subsequent challenges, not only we face, but ALL NGO's, we still managed to provide the crucial specialized home-based palliative care to hundreds of patients living with life-threatening illnesses.

We are desperate for funding to continue to promote quality in life, dignity in death and support in bereavement for BCM residents living with life-threatening illness, by providing specialised home-based palliative care through qualified and compassionate staff.

St Bernards Hospice is the only organisation in EL that provide specialized home-based palliative care.

Never show anyone away because of lack of finances. This is why this year's theme of "Leave no one behind" is very apt for what we believe in and strive to deliver. To celebrate World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

we are hosting our SPRING MARKET. We aim to raise R40 000 on the day. We are collaborating with a local Christian radio station, LINK FM that will be doing a live outside broadcast from our premises for us.

Listeners will be encouraged to "buy" a song at R250 per song during the TOP 40 SHOW. Will also invite 22 vendors to trade at the Spring Market.

All funds raised with this event is earmarked to launch BETTY BENNETS (a coffee shop) to help supplement the monthly income. As it is seen as an initiative that can lead to a steady monthly income.

She was the founder of our Hospice 30 years ago. We located Dr Bennetts daughter in Australia. We are going to contact her to possibly be interviewed on-air either prior to the day or on the day. Ideally, both.

We would ask her if she can drive a social media fundraising campaign with her Australian circle, using Backabuddy.

Please see this link below of the incredible work our professional nurses and carers provide on a daily basis.

  • Any additional funding that we can secure with this crowdfunding campaign will help ensure that we reach on average no less than 250 patients a month, and probably about 750 family members in the process.

St Bernards Hospice is an NPO that offers Home-Based Palliative Care to patients living with Life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses.    Illnesses like Multiple Sclerosis, Cancer, HIV, TB, and others.

Our goal is to improve the quality of life for both the patient and loved ones caring for them.

Palliative Care is not only about the end of life, some of our cancer patients go into remission, TB can be cured and HIV patients nursed back to health if medication is taken as prescribed.
