Help Sullied get to the UK

Personal message

Sullied: to damage the purity or integrity of…

Sullied is a dance production consisting of 5 young Durban theatre creatives. Who all came together out of a desperate need to create space for their voices to be heard and their work to been seen.

Sullied challenges, questions and deconstruct body politics – looking at religion, race, gender, sexuality and rape culture… Sullied asks how we endure living in a world rife with abuse and suffering. Sullied interrogates the effects that patriarchal ideologies, rape and misogyny has on the human psyche.

The company took a brave step by adventuring to the National Arts Festival in 2018 in which we walked away with a Standard Bank Gold Ovation Award.

This award opened up many opportunities one which leads us to this fundraising quest.

Sullied has been invited to be staged at the Brighton Fringe Festival in the UK in May 2019.

This trip is an important step needed to be taken to breathe life into this work and to ensure we as artists are able to sustain ourselves in the future. The company has worked tireless to get funding but have be unsuccessful due to many funding institutions being insufficient when it comes to providing the support needed for young artist in South Africa. We turn to you now for help.

The Company:
Kristi-Leigh Gresse: Choreographer
Matjamela Motloung: Director
Sandile Mkhize: Dancer
Fezeka Shandu: Actress
Nkosingiphile Dlamini: Lighting Designer

This trip will ensure that we are able to build relationships which international producers and artists. This networking platform will help to ensure future touring opportunities for Sullied and to give the company members a base to start building towards future international collaborations.

We need a total of R 200 000 but have been able to self raise enough to cover flights and accommodation. Currently we are looking at raising R 50 000 to cover the cost of VISAS, food, travel insurance and ground transport for 5 people.

The company is due to set off on the 27th of May 2019.
However, we are setting our target to raise the money by 16th May 2019.

The funds that we raise will help to cover the cost of VISAS, ground transport, travel insurance and Food.

VISAS: R 2500 per person (R 12 500)
Ground Transport: R 2500 per person (R 12 500)
Travel Insurance: R 1200 per person ( R 6000)
Food : R 500 per person per day (R 20 000)
Total: R 51 000

This fundraising initiative goes far beyond this tour to the UK. For this performance will allow for international producers to see the work and to ensure future international tours.
Sullied is a production that tackles a very harsh reality that infects every corner of the globe. The company wishes to increase their audience reach to ensure that the conversation around the work and its subject matter goes beyond national boarders.

The tour will also provided networking opportunities for each company member to build relationships with international artists and producers. Thus provided a base to working towards future collaborations and give each member a way to sustain themselves and their work.

The funds will be administered to the companies directly unless stated otherwise.

These include the UK.gov and TLScontact ( for VISAS)
And Global Voyager (for Travel Insurance )
The money used for ground transport will be managed by the company manager (Kristi-Leigh Gresse) who will pay for the train rides to and from the airport as well as the taxi rises to and from the performance venue once in the United Kingdom.
The money used for food will be distributed to each member directly. (each member is responsible for buying their own food)
