Superseed Community Food Gardens

Personal message

We are an Eco-Humanitarian community initiative that was birthed with the passion for making natural Superfoods (Fruits, Berries, etc) and complete natural nutrition accessible to the public.

It began with a dream of seeing rural communities and zones which have limited access to fresh and nutritious foods, become thriving communities through empowering their health on every level, as well as the health of their land.

What we do:

We are funded by campaigns we run, fundraisers, as well as private and public donations from South Africa and abroad.

With our seed source, Seeds for Africa, whom we buy seeds of fruit trees, berry bushes and medicinal edible plants from, we set out to look for any community, NPO, NGO which would like to apply for a Superseed garden on their land.

Once we acquire enough funding to cover the set up of the specific project – we get to work!

Our set up in any project includes skill development and coaching in the growing of the Fruit trees, Berries and Edibles. We do the initial planting and set up. We check in regularly with each project to make sure the growth is as expected, and continual support is our constant aim.

Our Projects:

A Superseed Superfood garden is open to any NGO or community around the country – all you need to do is apply.

We are based in Cape Town, Southern Peninsula, and currently working on a project in the Coffee Bay region, Eastern Cape, 'Mawotsheni' – an initiative for the upliftment of the youth there, having a crèche, preschool and primary school in the village. They are entirely off-grid and are looking to Superseed to plant their Superfood Garden.

We all know the hype about Superfoods and Superfood powders, and how they are monumentally beneficial in the everyday diet of a human. These have become a trend and an expensive, privileged aspect for many, whilst a very small percentage of people are able to access these foods. What we seemed to have forgotten, are the roots of these true foods which serve as our deepest companions in a healthy environment for our bodies.

Once we take away the processes of export, manufacture, slave labour, GMO, packaging and mass farming, we are left with the purest form of these Superfoods – as they are; grown from the Earth, from seed.

We stand for

  • going back to the simplicity of things,
  • for cutting out the excess carbon footprint of export, manufacture and mass farming,
  • generations ahead being able to use their bodies to their maximum potential due to having access to growing these Superfoods from their own soil in their communities,
  • equality of health-promoting practices being available and accessible for all,
  • empowerment through health and working with the land
  • seeding the future of a healthy, empowered nation.

The funds will be used for:

  • Transportation Costs
  • Seed purchases
  • Compost
  • Expert Horticulturists & Volunteers
  • Vehicle maintenance
  • Planting and landscaping tools
