My name is Chantelle Brits and I'm a Jhb based optometrist. I am trying to help a young man who has a severe disability get the vision he needs in order for him to succeed with his studies and his sport (he plays semi-professional cricket, despite his visual limitations!). Currently, 21-year-old Thami does not even remotely qualify for a driver's license with his reduced vision. With special (scleral) contact lenses he will be able to drive, see the cricket ball better and cope with his studies
Thami Tsengiwe is a 21 year old student with severe keratoconus, an eye disease causing distortion of the cornea resulting in extremely poor vision. Unfortunately, Thami's mom is currently unemployed and cannot afford the specialized contact lenses Thami needs in order to see well. I have waived my professional fees in order to help him but as the lenses are imported I still need some help to cover the expenses.
R8000 will cover Thami's lenses as well as the necessary eyedrops, cleaning solutions and lens handling tools.
I am hoping to raise the funds by 30 September 2019.
The funds will be used to pay for Thami's custom-designed scleral contact lenses.
This will be life-changing for Thami. He is suffering from depression as a result of his visual disability. Having the lenses will allow him to get a driver's license, study without the effort it is for him now, and play his sport.
*Funds raised will be transferred directly to Innovative Contact Lenses supplier.*
