My name is Thato Dipale. I'm a missing middle varsity student at the Nelson Mandela University in Gqeberha, it's currently my 3rd of 4 years. I'm orgininally from Gauteng and I'm all alone in Gqeberha. I left my home in 2021 with a purpose and a goal to become a human movement specialist, to bring my childhood dream of understanding the full capabilities of the human body and using my knowledge to help athletes unlock their full potential. I made this move with confidence as I had just received funding from nsfas so I dropped the course I was doing at the time as I felt that it drained the life out of me. Unbeknownst to me, this move would lead to wave after wave of difficulties. I lost my nsfas funding at the beginning of the year due to the n+ rule stipulated by nsfas. They had counted all the years I'd had been enrolled in varsity (whereas I thoulg they'd only count the years I've received funding from them (2 years out of 4),and my parents and I have been struggling to keep me in school ever since.
Both my parents are pensioners (with my Dad receiving a SASSA grant). My Mom is my rock and has been able to scrap to pay tuition fees, send me an allowance for food and pay for my rent. For the most part, my tuition for this year has been paid for. When I lost my funding I had already applied for and paid my deposit to stay at my current accommodation, which is private, costing R5200 (R5500 next year). I had relied on NSFAS to take care of a bulk of this rent. This was because I had transferred from one institution to another to study a completely new qualification. At this point, I was unable to withdraw my signed lease and deposit to my current accommodation and I was forced to stay for the year and figure out how to pay rent. We've been falling behind on payments lately and it doesn't look like well be able to pay the remaining month's rent (October to December). I'm planning on moving to a cheaper accommodation next year but I desperately need help paying off the remaining months rent so I can finally move past this difficult chapter in my life. Any amount you can donate is greatly appreciated. Thank you
