The Thabang Mosiako Fund

Personal message

Promising long-distance runner Thabang Mosiako’s future in the sport hangs in the balance after suffering head trauma during what has been described a racially motivated attack. I want to help him raise money for medical bills and any legal expenses if needed.

Thabang Mosiako, the South African 5000m national athletic title holder, was set to travel to Algeria for the African Champs in March, but may not be able to do so. Mosiake is a student at Boston College and a Nedbank runner. He was assaulted by about 10 North West University students. The assault has sparked fears that Mosiako's immediate athletic dreams could be shattered with concerns being raised around the extent of his head injury.

According to Mosiako’s friend Rantso Mokopane, 23, who posted a photo on Facebook: "4th time being attacked in and around the NWU Campus and this time around my training partner severely injured and resulting in a head trauma which may lead to lifelong seizures. I always refrain from racial issues, but on all those 4 attacks it has always been white men engulfing and injuring non-whites without cause,…..it saddens me that even police and protection services fail to protect where needed…#Cry_Our_ Beloved_Country

I started this fund to support Thabang but also to show that coming together as a community, of all races, is the true power of love and change. Thank you for your help.
