I am Shelley, a 45 year old wife and mum from Summerveld, Durban.
I am raising funds for a family close to my heart.
Tsepiso Manuel Kanetse works for my husband as a mechanic and gets a lift with us daily to and from work. He keeps us entertained with stories of his family and life in Shongweni, a rural area just outside Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.
During the recent heavy rains and floods in Durban, Manuel got a distressed call from his wife to say the corner of their house was being undermined and washed away by the heavy rains as a river had formed between the neighbouring houses.
Manuel took the next two days off work to stabilise both his home and his neighbours. Manuel does not own a vehicle and had to pay to have materials delivered to complete the repairs. Because they don't have road access, he paid three men to help him bring all the materials down the hill to his house. He has paid for a builder to help him complete sufficient repairs to secure his home from any further damage should we get more rain.
They have sensibly put piping into the foundations so that future rains will drain through the weepholes. Manuel has further work to do to secure the land in front of his house as it was washed away and now poses a risk to the stability of his home. Manuel is a wise man and is doing preventative repairs to his home.
Manuel is a kind, honest, hardworking father and husband who strives to do his best to give his children a future full of hope. He works hard to provide for his family and the funds he has already had to pay out to repair his home and further necessary costs are actually beyond his means and this will have an impact on his family.
Please support us as we raise funds to contribute to these expenses for this deserving family.
