v315km for Hunger

v315km for Hunger

Personal message

This is a repeat of the Zwift indoor ultra MTB marathon we hosted last year when the pandemic resulted in the cancellation of an event many ultra-marathoners had been training for - the 36one. We raised some good money in support of hunger. This time the event canceled is the TransXhariep - a 315km MTB race through the Karoo on the 6th March.

So we'll ride the equivalent distance of the TransXhariep, on the same date, on our indoor trainers in the Zwift platform while raising funds for Operation Antifreeze, who provide meals to 640 children.

Hunger is becoming a serious problem in South Africa as the economic effects of the lockdown deepen. Vulnerable communities are severely impacted and the need for food is on the increase.

There are two ways to back our rides:

1. Per Pizza Slice Burnt: Zwift tracks calories burnt as pizza slice equivalents, at roughly 285 calories each. If you are riding v315 we challenge you to back yourself by sponsoring R12 for every slice burnt - you're likely to burn about 12,000 calories, so thats 42 slices (or R500). Ask your friends and family to sponsor some pizza slices too.

2. Per Km: The race is 315km on Zwift, so back our rides with R1.50 per km (about R500)

Or choose any amount you would like to ...

Operation Antifreeze

Operation Antifreeze Logo

Operation Antifreeze is a registered non-profit organization and we have been making a difference in our community for the last 20 years. Our main project is providing food parcels to 640 children across Ekurhuleni.

These children have been identified by their teachers as coming from very poor homes in desperate need of assistance. For many of these children, the meal they receive at school is their only meal for the day. Some do not eat from Friday lunchtime until they receive their lunch on a Monday.

A hungry child cannot concentrate and reach their full potential. The food parcels we proved ensure they have something to eat at home and over the weekends. We provide stationery for these children at the beginning of the year, blankets in winter, and Christmas hampers in December.

We also assist a number of other organizations, a rehabilitation center, a care center for the homeless, an after-school feeding scheme for children in Kingsway informal settlement amongst others. Due to the effects of Covid on our economy, we are also assisting many families who have lost their sources of income.
